Bonaventure (Soraya Lutangu) uses music as an identity research tool along with practical and speculative initiatives to connect her African and European roots and investigate human relationships.
Her first release “Complexion” on NON Worldwide, and features a remix by label founder Chino Amobi. One of Bonaventure’s earliest productions, “Complexion” displays her ear for surprising, uncompromising shifts in progression. Stream below:
Bonaventure won a place on the Berlin Community Radio 2016 Incubator Residency which landed her a recurring spot on the airwaves. She has also made herself at home for several hours on London’s NTS Radio.
Her radio mixes bring disparate genres into smooth sequences that she refuses to protect from abrupt collisions.
Her collaboration with artist and writer Hannah Black, “Anxietina”, was commissioned by Berlin Community Radio and premiered as part of 2016 Berlin Biennial on the Boat Rage program. They have continued to perform and adapt the piece, which has also been performed in twice in London at the Institute of Contemporary Arts and the PAN label night at Bloc. The collaborative piece is likely to continue its evolution in other art and music spaces until its next scheduled performance at MoMA PS1 in April 2017.
